BAUHAUS 2.0

Material for our first workshop was scrap metal, wood and glass. We chose one piece each, then were asked to design ‘equilibrium’ with the supplementary pieces and tools. Students in the foundation course at the Bauhaus did a similar exercise. The motto was something like, ‘The act of building is the goal for all.’

BAUHAUS 1.0

Goethe. Listz. Bach. BAUHAUS.
Weimar, Germany (pop. 65,000) is the first home to the most important modern school in design history, which started here in 1919. Thanks to CAL’s Cultural Fund, I’ve arrived for Type Camp Bauhaus.
Over the next week I will be workshopping within the same walls as my design heroes; under four typography and design gurus, with eight other type campers from all over the world.

DOCUMENTA 13  |  Hello KASSEL
Held over multiple venues in Kassel, Germany, Documenta is a modern and contemporary art exhibition held once every five years. Unlike the biennale, Documenta aims to make visible the roots of contemporary artistic production in all major fields, it’s also about historical reference to contemporary art. Here are a few of my faves.

What happens when you think too hard.

A diagonally cut A1 sheet of MDF and the compound word GHOST/ WRITER for the Terrible Twos Melbourne exhibition at No Vacancy in Melbourne on June 7. I was fortunate enough to collaborate with Nick Hallam from Positive Posters on this project by The Design Kids and Desktop Magazine. My 3D pixelated typewriter is made from hand cut balsa wood.

ACCA did a great show to end 2011 with. Pipilotti Rist keeps it simple, but does it really well.
